HOA Program

Habitat Owners Association

With habitat loss, fragmentation, and degradation increasing in the greater Big Sky area, existing open space (e.g., areas managed by HOAs) is proving to be a critical component of preserving important habitat.

Grow Wild partners with HOAs and the Gallatin County Weed District to improve wildlife habitat in HOA open spaces through a three-year invasive species management initiative. Our goal is to provide education and technical support to jumpstart habitat restoration, equipping HOAs with the knowledge and skills to sustain these efforts long-term.

In the Big Sky area, habitat fragmentation, degradation, and loss are fundamental threats to wildlife survival.

When ecosystems are dramatically impacted by human activities, such as development, wildlife may no longer be able to find the food, water, cover, and places to raise young that they need to survive.

Invasive species negatively impact wildlife habitat via:

  • altering food webs

  • reducing available forage

  • changes in water quality and availability

  • causing or carrying disease

  • disruption of seasonal migration patterns

  • altering ecosystem conditions and processes

  • decreasing biodiversity
